    • Texas to become 11th state to ban red light cameras

The Dallas News reports the state senate passed a bill which will outlaw red light cameras in Texas. The governor is expected to sign the bill into law which will make Texas the 11th state to ban the use of red light cameras.

Good for those 11 states but many people are still getting scammed by these cameras.

Republicans argued the cameras violate due process and democrats stated the cameras improve public safety.

Really, the cameras bring in a ton of money and the companies that sell the cameras pitch them to cities as revenue generators. There are studies showing increased rear end collisions as people attempt to avoid getting a red light ticket and speed past.

Fremont California was caught shortening yellow light time to increase red light violations which in turn increased revenue.

      Good riddance.

It's pretty easy to not be in the intersection when the light goes red. Heaven forbid folks drive with caution and not the attitude race race race gotta get there, let's blow the light

By statute, the light must remain lit to provide adequate time to slow down to a stop once visualized. Reaction time, speed limit and road conditions all come into factor when programming the lights.

It takes extensive traffic surveys to change the programming of an intersection, that is why Fremont's violation was such a big issue.

Red light cameras are not even enforceable in the State of CA. If one pays the fine it is considered a voluntary admission of guilt and forfeit of bail.

If one ignores the fine, the bill collectors will harass the $#@! out of you, but cannot launch any adverse actions.

Caution light reduction times were company instituted in Texas which made driving more unsafe compared to normal caution light timings. Several municipalities removed and banned these cash generators when this was proven by independent investigation. Also the company take on fines was at least 50%.

None of this was done to increase public safety, it was all about revenue flow.
