        Formula 1 is back from its summer break and the back half of the season kicked off with the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa. After initial drama it was relatively uneventful as Sebastian Vettel got ahead of Lewis Hamilton and never looked back.


        Hamilton complained the Ferrari was much faster than his car and there was nothing he could do about it.

        The race went Vettel, Hamilton, and Verstappen 1-2-3 and held that way for the majority. Hamilton remains in first place overall in the driver standings but Vettel is closing that gap.

        The only real drama after wrecks on the first lap was provided by Valtteri Bottas charging up the pack after starting in the rear due to a penalty.

        While the race itself became boring what became quite clear is the new 'halo' crash protection arguably saved a life and despite being ugly is necessary and works very well.

          As much as we sometimes dispute Ferrari’s credibility, they and Italians simply do it better! There is no disputing that!

          Ferrari has been faster all season. They are failing by not currently leading championship.

          Lewis had pole for the race because he is best wet weather driver on the grid and the quali master.

          That is another subject entirely.
          Because of the max fuel flow limit, and some other factors as well.
          Boost now is completely electric, which is better controllable and less prone to cheating.
          (Although the new Ferrari design where they split the MGU-K battery has proved to benefit them enormously in the last races).
          That, and the DRS should in theory be enough. All cars have an overtake button. But that can also be used to defend, so strategically used (check Verstappen/Raikkonen Spain 2016) you can fend of an attacker if the cars are within 1 second of laptime delta.

          So, in short, the answer to your question is, : If they all have it, it serves no purpose, and id would needlesly overcomplicate the ECU and make it subject to cheating.

          But you asked that question before...

          Those engineers are mad geniuses. You're not giving them enough credit. They already stated they'll be removing aero appendages which increase the turbulence coming off of the cars so it is physically possible. Also, heads up racing MotoGP style might help a bit as the cheese being played by pit crews isn't as exciting to fans as it is to the people crunching the numbers to find the right window to release them back into the race.

          Well I think it should be explored. I think ideas should be suggested.

          Honestly, I don't get the big deal about Formula 1. Most races are boring.

          Sure, it's a cool spectacle but when you know who is going to win who cares really?

          The guys at the back of the pack are pointless. Why do they even bother? They race to get less money and the people at the top get the majority plus Ferrari gets a huge bonus for being Ferrari. It's a joke.

          If the other cars can not compete they should be allowed to make more boost to make up for it. Temporarily even or in certain situations like DRS. Imagine getting rewarded for passing someone with a second of overboost or something like that. Imagine being allowed to run more power at the expense of fuel economy. Bring back refueling. Let's get more pit stops going.

          You can't possibly like how it's the AMG and Ferrari show every week and whomever qualifies first usually gets the win. No wonder Force India had to be purchased and couldn't survive. I wonder why Haas even bothers.

          Nope, it is physically impossible.
          Even without aero components, slipstreaming is already driving in disrupted air.
          So, driving at 300+ km/h without disrupting air can only be achieved in a vacuum...
          And that presents all sorts of problems Click here to enlarge

          And besides, the rear of F1 cars for some teams is designed to disrupt the air behind the car. If it can be achieved without sacrificing their own speed, it is a plus to not being able to be followed closely. For obvious reasons.
          Diffusers and raking alone disturbs air behind the car enough to cause trouble for following cars.

          Like I said, aero alterations are being mandated to limit designs with the sole purpose to INCREASE disrupted air. If you can increase something purposely then it's possible to decrease it as well. But whatever, I watch Blancpain GT series events and MotoGP when I want to see racing as opposed to chess with cars and the glorified time attack F1 has become.

          They have the World Baseball Classic for global competition.

          World Series refers to World's Championship Series because it is the championship series in the highest level of professional baseball. Players from all over the world do play in the MLB.

          American football is exciting. No outcome is guaranteed.

          Formula 1 has the exact same people win every week and teams that know they can not even compete. Two teams are competitive. That's it.

          What's the freaking point?
